| Your
consultation is similar to that with any medical consultation and
for explanation can be divided into 3 parts:
1.
Full Medical History
The
consultation will begin with a detailed case history and include:
- A
full medical history
- A
full enquiry to your present condition
- A
full history into precipitating anf predisposing factors
It
will also include any previous medical history such as any serious
illness, accidents, broken bones, or operations which you have had
since birth up to the present day. Any of these may have a bearing
on your current problem.
2.
Examination
The medical history is then followed up by
osteopathic examination based upon knowledge of clinical anatomy,
physiology and pathology. This will lead the Osteopath to an appropriate
medical diagnosis. He/she will then explain what is wrong with you,
and how he intends to treat you.
Having completed the examination the Osteopath can decide how best
to treat your problem, be it through Osteopathic treatment and techniques
or if need be, a referral to your doctor for further consulation
and/or second opinion which may be helpful in solving your problem.
As with your GP, all personal and clinical information is dealt
with in the strictest confidence.
3.
Osteopathic Treatment
The
Osteopathic techniques and treatment used are individually selected
and tailored to suit your needs.
You
will be guided and explained the rational behind the treatment as
well as given an indication as to how long recovery will possibly
take.
The treatment will be backed up by home advice and self help exercises
which specifically suited to aid your in faster recovery.
Your Osteopathic Appointment
There
is no fixed duration for an appointment although they are generally
in the region of 20-30 minutes. Conditions vary considerably in
the amount of time they require. The Osteopaths at the clinic are
committed to achieving the very best for every patient.
Please remember that what is achieved inside the consulting room
is only a proportion of the Osteopath's work. It is necessary for
Osteopaths to keep relevant notes, communicate with GPs, review
hospital X-rays and Scans, write reports, liaise with our staff
and upgrade our skills.
Most
people receive maximum benefit from a short course of treatment,
whilst others require continuing attention to sustain relief from
pain.
