Common Questions

"Is osteopathic treatment painful?"

In general, no and with skillful handlling there should be no major after effects. The Osteopaths at the clinic are taught how to manage patients who are in acute pain and you will be handled with the uttermost care and attention.

"Are there any side effects with treatment?"

Side effects are generally very rare; you might experience some tiredness / soreness for a few days afterwards but this will subside quickly. Osteopathy as a whole is a very safe & effective form of treatment and on the whole patients feel freer and more comfortable almost immediately after treatment.

"How long will it take me to get better?"

Your rate of recovery will depend on several factors including your age, general health, sensitivity to treatment, activities in your life, as well as the type of problem you have. The consultation may highlight possible maintaining and causative factors for your particular condition and these will be explained to you on your visit so that recovery your time can be reduced.

"Is it necessary to see the GP first?"

Many patients are referred by their doctor, but it is not necessary to visit him/her first. If there is any reason for the Osteopath to contact your doctor he/she will request your permission first.

"What would my doctor say?"

The clinic has very good relationships with local GP's and most would be happy for you to see an Osteopath. However if you do have an underlying medical condition there are some osteopathic techniques that can harm you, this is why an Osteopath will always take a full medical case history on you first visit - and again if more than six months have elapsed between treatments.

Is osteopathic treatment suitable for any age?"

Age is not a barrier to receiving osteopathic treatment & treatment is specifically adapted to your individual needs. The clinic Osteopaths see and treat patients from all ages - children to the elderly, working individuals to sporting people as well as pregnant mothers.

"Do you issue off-work certificates (sick notes)?"

"Yes we do". Where appropriate, we issue Off Work Certificates as provided by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). These are accepted by employers and the DSS for benefit purposes.

"Do you accept patients through insurance schemes?"

"Yes we do". Were are registered with BUPA, PPP, and other major health insurance companies as well as seeing clients who are members of HSA and other similae schemes.

Patients are advised to contact the respective provider and obtaining approval prior attending the clinic
